JOB TITLE: SUPERVISOR, PLANT ACCOUNTING
Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Work hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

POSITION SUMMARY: The Plant Accounting Supervisor is responsible for over-seeing LCEC’s plant accounting and work order functions. This supervisory position may also serve as back up for other department supervisors on occasion. Although this position is accountable for the plant accounting functions, this role will also assist with tasks in other accounting departments such as budget, A/P, GL, analysis and forecasting.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the processing and maintenance of construction and retirement work order transactions and records.
- Reviews and recommends changes in overhead and stores rates, plant accounting/work order procedures and policies.
- Supervise the processing of all other plant accounting transactions to include, but not limited to, depreciation, insurance, inventory, transportation, and the reconciliation of subsidiary records to control accounts.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Operations and outside consultants for the continued development and improvement of the work order system. Provide plant accounting expertise and training to managers, supervisors and staff during budget process and provide a resource to them for plant accounting and work order-related changes, questions and/or problems.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of financial and statistical reports.
- Act as backup for other department supervisors as needed. This may include tasks related to general ledger and accounts payable functions. Backup responsibilities may also include assisting with regulatory filings, as well as financial forecasts and plans.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including (but not limited to) specialized advice and assistance to the Accounting Manager and senior staff as required.
- Support audits by coordinating requested reports, schedules and backup to internal and external auditors. May be called upon to provide interim supervisory or analytical support in other departments consistent with general accounting skills and expertise.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC. Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts. Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.
- Special projects as may be assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Ten (10) or more years progressive experience in electric utility accounting and/or plant accounting.
- Multiple years’ supervisory experience or previous experience training and mentoring less senior plant accountants.
- Familiarity with FERC Chart of Accounts with a concentration on asset and depreciation accounts.
- Knowledge of G.A.A.P.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to work in collaborative environment using interactive skills or work independently with minimal supervision, as required by changing business situations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and present information on complex topics in a credible and understandable manner.
- Ability to develop sound policy recommendations and facilitate consideration and acceptance of same.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service orientation.
- Professional experience in financial analysis and/or special project leadership.
- Accuracy in daily work and other projects.
- Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior plant accounting experience in a cooperative setting.
- Experience with NISC flagship software.
- Current events and issues in the electric utility industry.
- Formal training and/or experience in computerized modeling and forecasting.
- Experience in utility Forecasting and planning.
