Job requirements and responsibilities:
Answers telephone calls, identifying self and clinic/ practice, provides proper patient triage as per clinic policy.
Receives and documents telephone messages and route to the appropriate person.
Schedules appointments with accurate patient information.
Calls patient to confirm appointments one day prior.
Obtains patient information and inputs in EMR while ensuring efficiency and verifying the correct patient chart.
Verifies patient insurance coverage and collects payments and copays.
Maintains confidentiality when interacting with patients, families, personnel and the public.
Utilizes photocopy and facsimile machine.
Prepares patient prior to provider examination to ensure proper workflow.
Provides back office medical assistance to the physician for patient exam and medical procedures.
Obtains and records patient, vital signs, time and date, weight, medication profile, immunization record, allergies, chief complaint.
Obtains signature(s)/initial(s) where appropriate; minor procedures, injections, etc.
Administers and handle medications.
Maintains and sanitize the surrounding premises of patients are kept clean and neat.
Cleans and sterilizes the medical instruments and equipment.
Maintains proper documentation and logging for autoclave, sterilizing, refrigerator and freezer, dispensing sample medication, injections, sharp containers, accidental report, incident report.
Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.
Knowledge of normal values for vital signs for specific age group. ( Blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature)
Knowledge of the scope of practice for medical assistants in the state of California
Knowledge of ICD 10
