Job Overview
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking qualified Pharmacy Technicians to provide expert support in delivering pharmaceutical services at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), VA, and its associated clinics. Pharmacy Technicians will assist in preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with Department of Defense and NMCP protocols.
General Duties
Assist in preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications under the supervision of licensed pharmacists.
Utilize pharmacy computer systems and robotic systems according to MTF protocols.
Maintain inventory, including controlled substances, and uphold pharmacy security standards.
Perform aseptic techniques when handling sterile products, parenteral nutrition, or chemotherapy agents.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness in fulfilling patient prescriptions.
Participate in quality assurance programs and adhere to infection control procedures.
Preferred Locations
Candidates will be required to choose three (3) preferred locations from the following list. After a 2–3 month period of initial training, orientation, and in-processing at the main pharmacy at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), candidates will be assigned to one of their chosen locations based on vacancy at the time of the start date:

Qualifications
Degree/Certification:
Certificate from an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited pharmacy technician program or a formal U.S. military medical services training program.
OR Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Experience:
Minimum of 12 consecutive months of pharmacy technician experience within the last 24 months.
Additional Requirements:
Two letters of recommendation written within the last two years, one from a practicing pharmacist or pharmacy supervisor attesting to clinical skills, and one from a clinical professional familiar with patient care.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in operating pharmacy computer and robotic systems.
Strong attention to detail in verifying prescriptions and managing inventory.
Knowledge of safety, infection control, and aseptic techniques.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Schedule and Hours
The hospital pharmacy operates 24/7, including federal holidays. and Shifts range from 8.5 to 12.5 hours, including a 30-minute uncompensated meal break.
Associated Clinic hours varies during day time and shift is mostly 8.5 hours scheduled between 7 am to 6 pm, including a 30-minute uncompensated meal break.
