Position: Chief Operating Officer at Chick-fil-A Gloucester

    Summary:

The Chief Operating Officer will leverage Chick-fil-A’s reputation for excellence and inspire our team members with the vision that “there is just no better place to eat or to work” than our restaurant. They must be convinced that our success rests on building a strong culture of personal excellence. They will lead a wide variety of teams to make sure each team member’s employment expectations are exceeded and each guest’s customer service expectations are exceeded daily.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Profitability is essential for the well-being of the team members and the future of the restaurant. The COO will create budgets for the bi-weekly team member schedule and must balance a consistent, exceptional customer experience with increasing profit.
    • Cleanliness is a matter of respect and a hallmark of a quality restaurant. The COO will lead a team whose purpose is to repair, maintain, and clean restaurant facilities and equipment quickly and cost-effectively.
    • Should there be a vacancy at the director level for any reason, the COO will assume the responsibilities of that director until the position is filled.
    • The COO is responsible for making sure adequate inventory levels are always present in the restaurant and must implement effective loss control procedures.
    • The COO is responsible for ensuring best-in-class food safety standards all day, every day.
    • Through their personal example and inspirational leadership, the COO will fill our team with a desire to make sure every single guest experiences our award-winning reputation for “Operational Excellence.” “Operational Excellence” is specifically defined as: every guest, on every visit, will experience the best tasting food, impressively quick service, a remarkably clean restaurant, and attentive and courteous team members.
    • The COO should expect to deliver personal specific encouragement to high performing team members and constructive criticism to team members and leaders multiple times daily.
    • Related to the above responsibility, the COO, with the appropriate director, will be expected to identify poor performance and set clear expectations for improvement or dismissal.

    Requirements:

    • The COO role is fluid and ever-changing because it is based on the needs of the restaurant. Currently the restaurant can only afford a COO if they lead from a team member position at least 25 hours during the week. Even when the COO is not working from a team member role, they are expected to jump in and assist the team wherever and whenever that is needed.
    • The COO should expect to work 3-4 nights per week.
    • The COO should expect to work 5 days per week. The COO’s work will be flexible, based on the strengths and needs of their team. It is not unreasonable for the COO to work 50-60 hours a week, especially in the first year or two, or in demanding seasons.
    • This is the restaurant business. The COO should expect the holiday season to be very demanding, especially the seasons between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the New Year weekend, and summer months. The COO will need to be very selective if or when they can take time off, based on the demands of the business and existing leadership capacity.
    • Candidates with little to no experience will be expected to complete an 8-12 month team member immersion experience, prior to assuming the role of COO. A copy of this immersion program will be provided to candidates upon request.
    • The COO must be judged to be a top 20% team member in all stations and a subject matter expert in all restaurant departments by their peers.
    • The COO must obtain a Manager’s Serve Safe Certification (may be accomplished on the job).
    • This restaurant has never had a COO before and reserves the right to change this job description based on the needs of the restaurant even after the position is accepted.
    • The COO must be someone who can win the respect of the team and lead them in a way that the team will want to follow them.
    • The COO must be humble, accepting their mistakes and fully committed to the truth that everyone has something to teach them.
    • The COO must never engage in any drama or controversy on social media that could reflect poorly on the restaurant.
    • The COO must be of sound emotional, physical, and financial health and display this through appearance and personal life, in such a way that team members want to emulate them.
    • The COO must show a high degree of outward and obvious enthusiasm for the restaurant, its vision, its leadership, and its future potential.

    Annual Compensation: $85,000

Annual compensation will include a base salary of $50,000 and then an 8% share of the profits. This percentage means actual annual compensation could be higher or lower than $85,0000. Historically, the 8% profit share equates to $85,000. This role is heavily performance based.

Experience is not required for this position. Candidates with little or no restaurant leadership experience will be offered the $50,000 base salary while engaged in our 8-12 month team member immersion program. After successful completion of this program, the candidate will assume the COO role officially, and immediately begin to receive the 8% profit share.

    • $900 monthly allowance for family medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with up to 3% employer match
    • 3 Weeks Paid Flex Time
