    ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

    OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBLITIES

    This executive position, reporting to the President & CEO, is responsible for providing leadership and strategic vision for all aspects of fundraising, donor engagement, and business development for United Way of Weld County. The Chief Development Officer successfully establishes, deepens and grows major individual, business, and corporate relationships. They employ new and innovative engagement approaches, including corporate social responsibility and leadership giving strategies to reach new markets and donors. They are responsible for implementing annual plans and making course corrections when required to meet annual fundraising goals.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Supervisor Duties

    Supervision of the entire Development team including fundraising managers and a data specialist.

    Develop, lead, mentor and provide supervision for Development staff maximizing and empowering the team to develop and implement growth objectives and strategies. Enable the team to meet the ongoing needs of broadening and diversifying philanthropic support. Create effective development plans for staff to enable them to grow in skills and abilities as the organization grows into its multi-year vision.

    Perform general supervisor tasks such as leading regular team check-ins, approving timesheets, reviewing purchases and mileage, etc.

    Development Overall

    Support the CEO and other staff in furthering United Way of Weld County’s development, community impact and nonprofit excellence objectives. Serve as a member of the staff executive team.

    Design and implement a strategic and comprehensive fundraising system to achieve annual revenue goals through major gifts, planned giving, corporate relationships, individual giving, and special events.

    Develop, refine and implement strategies for individual, leadership and planned giving; solicit major gifts from a portfolio of current and prospective donors, both individual and business.

    Develop, refine and implement corporate engagement strategy that establishes partnerships with new businesses and markets across Weld County and furthers those already established.

    Analyze results and effectiveness of the development plan, utilizing a Customer Relationship Manage magnet (CRM) System as part of a results-driven strategy.

    Provide a high level of support and open communication to the Board of Directors on development-related activities in ways that inspire them to action and strengthen their commitment.

    Build and maintain strong relationships with the community by promoting executive participation in major community groups and boards such as the Chamber, Rotary and other organizations elevating the visibility of United Way of Weld County.

    Develop and sustain positive relationships with the systems and departments internally to ensure that the organization is aligned with the overall strategic plan and that the internal departments are integrated to support the successful achievement of the philanthropic plan.

    Support and promote the mission, values, goals and objectives of United Way, including representing United Way in professional organizations and the community (as assigned).

    Support fundraising efforts of United Way and activities that support United Way.

    Support United Way annual events, disaster response, and other activities as assigned.

    Participate in staff meetings and in service opportunities.

    Contribute to organizational promotions including writing promotional copy, proofreading informational and campaign materials, participation in outreach, etc.

    Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor’s degree or higher.

    Minimum of 10 years of fundraising experience in a corporate or nonprofit organization, at least 3 of which were at an organization with at least $5 million in revenue.

    At least 7 years of management experience, with at least 5 years at the senior leadership level managing teams. Proven ability to recruit, lead and manage development staff.

    Experience in serving as a spokesperson for an organization; above average written and verbal communication skills.

    POSITION INFORMATION

    Full-time (40 hours), salaried, exempt

    Salary Range (C1): $101,528 - $126,238 per year

    Plus $1,500 year Spanish speaking differential, if applicable

    Supervisory duties: 3 direct reports

    Reports to: President & CEO

    Eligible for remote work: hybrid after 90 days of employment with supervisors’ approval. It is not expected that this role will maintain a set remote schedule, as the needs of donors do not typically fall within a usual schedule. Ability to work remote will likely change on a week-to-week basis, depending on the needs of donors and other partners.

    The retirement plan is open to all employees after one year, and the employer contribution is determined by the Board of Directors.
