Our client, a leading cannabis company, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Engineer to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of their cultivation and production facility. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems function efficiently, overseeing building safety and compliance, and managing a team of maintenance personnel. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment that meets both regulatory and operational standards in the cannabis industry.
**This is an in person role in the Palm Springs, CA area
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and maintain the operation of critical facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, water treatment, and waste management systems.
- Implement and manage a preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend the life of facility equipment.
- Manage and train a team of maintenance staff, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ensure facility operations comply with local, state, and federal cannabis regulations, including OSHA, fire safety, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate with cultivation, processing, and packaging teams to ensure smooth facility operations and to support production timelines.
- Monitor and maintain security systems in compliance with state cannabis regulations, ensuring controlled access to restricted areas.
- Supervise and liaise with external contractors, vendors, and service providers for facility-related projects, repairs, and installations.
- Manage facility budgets, including the procurement of maintenance supplies, equipment, and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Develop and implement facility safety programs, conducting regular safety drills and inspections to maintain compliance.
- Ensure proper documentation of facility operations, including maintenance logs, safety checks, and compliance reports.
- Collaborate with upper management on facility expansion projects, renovations, and new equipment installations.
- Identify opportunities for energy efficiency and sustainability improvements, recommending and implementing cost-saving measures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in facilities management, preferably in a manufacturing, production, or cannabis environment.
- Proven experience with managing large-scale HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with state and federal cannabis regulations, including security and safety requirements.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on efficiency and cost management.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to the unique challenges of the cannabis industry.
Compensation: $90,000-120,000 plus health and dental benefits after 90 days
