    The Child Care Cook, Food Specialist, is responsible for overall food ordering and preparation for the school’s enrolled children. This role should be able to adapt to USDA Food Program, menu changes and meet meal and snack schedules.

    As a Food Specialist, you will be:

    At home in the kitchen! Create home-style, nutritional meal plans in the boundaries of their school's menu and budget, as well as state and federal requirements. Prepare meals/snacks for children and staff and distribute food to the classrooms.

    Focused on health and safety! Follow the daily menu provided by the Director which incorporates USDA Food Program, licensing, and/or health department regulations.

    Organized! Maintain inventory of food and supplies, order food and is able to calculate the amount needed. Maintains an orderly, clean and safe kitchen area at all times, including the proper maintenance of equipment.

    Helpful! Assist in classrooms as needed as an Assistant Teacher/Floater.

    Job Requirements:

    Maintains a keen awareness of children that have allergies and food restrictions. Offers substitute items to children who may be allergic or have other food restrictions.

    Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals in a childcare facility, preferred.

    High school diploma or GED required.

    Ensures food service area and food is free of nuts, nut products or food items that have been processed in a facility that also processes nut products according to the policies and procedures of the school. Checks all food labels upon receipt to ensure compliance with this requirement.

    Follows the daily menu prepared in collaboration with or by the Directors.

    Follows portion control standards for lunch and snacks in preparations.

    Weekly Food ordering.

    Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.

    Exceptional patience and ability to always remain calm.

    Physically able to perform tasks, including lifting (Up to 35 lbs) , bending, kneeling, stooping and standing.

    Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

    Must have current food handler’s card.

    A willingness to learn and adhere to all current state and local regulations.

    Flexibility as to the hours and schedule of work.

    Have reliable transportation.

    Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions.

    Maintains overall professional personal appearance adhering to the guidelines offered in the School Employee Handbook
