The Work:
We are currently seeking an experienced Architectural Plan Reviewer and Code Inspector for our government-focused team. This role is primarily focused on performing code enforcement reviews and inspections. The ideal candidate will be adept at interpreting and enforcing construction codes, standards, and regulations specific to government construction projects.
In this role, you will support Chinook's clients by providing plan review and code inspection services for both new and existing construction efforts across multiple concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive code enforcement reviews, inspections, and plan reviews for architectural and accessibility compliance. Review construction feasibility and code compliance, provide comments, and ensure sustainability and reliability. Address complaints, violations, disputes, and maintain accurate records of code violations and actions taken.
- Document all deficiencies and prepare detailed reports of observations and enforcement actions with associated code references.
- Maintain a record of observed deficiencies and actions taken and provide weekly briefings on status.
- Interpret, explain, and enforce provisions of the construction codes, standards, and regulations to clients, contractors, architects, and engineers.
- Collaborate with internal and external team members to ensure project success.
- Conduct pre-construction site walks to identify architectural and accessibility issues during scope development and document findings.
- Perform as-built / redline document reviews to verify changes and ensure accuracy.
- Assist in code development, and implementation, and provide technical advice to ensure building projects comply with the necessary codes.
- Identify potential extra work issues and keep the client and management advised of issues. Prepare estimates of extra work as applicable and prepare related sketches and documentation as required.
- Witness and document code compliance tests for various systems. Identify and record any non-compliance issues during testing.
- Actively participate in process and procedure development, company meetings, and training seminars.
- Oversee assigned staff and ensure the application of company policies.
- Stay updated with building codes, construction techniques, and government regulations.
- Coordinate with other inspectors, code enforcement officials, contractors, and participate in necessary meetings.
- Travel to facilities for meetings, site walks, inspections, and commissioning activities.
- Provide design support, investigate accessibility complaints, and support accessibility task forces under the direction of the government's Building Code Official (BCO).
- Utilize governmental project submittal/review systems for documentation.
- Attend company meetings, training seminars, and other company and client functions.
- Work with senior leadership to grow our architectural practice.
- Support government construction projects through diligent and proactive service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) license, NCARB registration preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or architectural engineering from an NAAB or ABET-accredited university or college.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience with the International Building Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) / Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) accessibility standards.
- Extensive experience conducting architectural plans reviews, including accessibility-related reviews.
- Strong knowledge of various codes and standards, including ICC I-codes, NFPA codes, ABA Accessibility Standards, ASHRAE Standards, ASME Standards, and ANSI Standards. Five (5) years of experience with the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) is preferred.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and explain complex information. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively, with engineers, contractors, facility and owner staff via all channels of communication.
- Proficient in the use of technology, including construction project management software and mobile devices. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of software is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret-level security clearance. An active Secret level security clearance is preferred.
- Ability to handle stressful situations, work in a team environment, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various construction sites.
Desired Qualifications:
- Expertise in building envelope design and construction requirements.
- Experience with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF) construction and the associated ICD/ICS 705 technical specifications.
- Experience with Construction Quality Management.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team while providing multi‐discipline coordination.
- Must possess an in-depth knowledge of federal building codes / standards / guidelines, construction practices, and safety standards (e.g., ANSI, ICC, UFC / UFGS, UL).
- Must be a creative, innovative, and solutions-oriented thinker with the ability to understand and achieve goals and anticipate client needs.
- Must have a track record of client satisfaction in mission-critical facilities and a passion for analyzing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and upgrading integrated systems in aging facilities and campus environments.
Physical Requirements:
The job requires physical stamina for extensive walking, standing, and climbing during site inspections. Must also be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
