Job Description

The City of Lenexa Police Department has one paid CRIME ANALYSIS INTERNSHIP available for the Summer of 2021.  The paid internship program will be offered June-July and the rate of pay will be $12.00 per hour.  The program will be offered in one summer session that will last 5 weeks.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lenexa Police Department Internship Program is designed and dedicated to providing practical work experience to students through research, training, and skill development by the professional, committed, and proactive personnel of the Lenexa Police Department.

Interns should be highly motivated persons seeking a career in crime &/or intelligence. The intern will complete training tasks, written reports, and participate in ride-alongs with officers. The program will be highly structured with the intent of providing the intern with the education and experience for possible future crime and intelligence analysis careers. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Completes a minimum of 200 hours with the Lenexa Police Department.  Hours may be added at the needs/request of the student/university. 
• Completes five sections of training including hands-on analysis, ride-alongs, and practical application of software programs and suites. Opportunities to shadow other units in the department are also provided. 
• Completes reports giving practical work experience in documentation, dissemination, & identification of actionable intelligence with feedback from experienced analysts.
• Completes research project that will be submitted to the analyst overseeing the intern program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:  Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.  Must be enrolled in an associate, bachelor’s, or graduate program that requires an internship. Must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must pass an oral interview with the Intern Analyst and designated officers.

COMPENSATION: This is a paid internship starting at $12.00 per hour.  Offers for the summer internship are conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
