    ORGANIZATION: Earth Matter NY Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, and application of composting in and around New York City. Earth Matter NY seeks to reduce the organic waste misdirected into the garbage stream by encouraging neighbor participation and leadership in composting. Earth Matter NY is a host site for the community composting processing and education, funded by the New York City Council.

    THE POSITION: Citywide Education Facilitator

    Earth Matter NY seeks an enthusiastic individual with compost knowledge and organics processing experience for a full-time position. The Facilitator is employed by Earth Matter NY and reports to the Compost Project Administrative Manager. This person's primary responsibility is supporting Earth Matter NY by facilitating compost education as part of the Compost Project team with citywide partners and collaborators. This person conducts outreach and program coordination with existing external compost and community partners and schools off site and programming at Earth Matter, co-develops curricular modules, and delivers on site and off-site programming. These responsibilities require the candidate to be available for two-three weekends/month from May through October. The 40-hour work week will be split so that there is time-off during the week if working on a weekend.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ● Connect with external compost partner organizations to co-create, facilitate and report on educational compost programming at Earth Matter and at various partner sites around the city

    ● Collaborate with the Island Education Facilitator and other Earth Matter staff, to ensure all onsite programming (work days, tours, and events) are prepped (coordinated, curriculum, supply needs, setup/clean up, etc.) and staffed

    ● Plan, co-develop, coordinate, and staff outreach activities such as workshops, trainings, conferences, tours, tabling

    ● Co-lead technical assistance outreach, assessment, and implementation with partners like NYC Housing Authority and Green Thumb community gardens around the city including site visits

    ● Co-lead public and NYC Master Composter partner activities such as workdays, tours, and workshops

    ● Co-lead adult and youth trainee education with key Managers and Coordinators

    ● Support the Administrative Manager by data gathering, organizing, and reporting

    ● Act as an overall ambassador of the The Compost Project

    ● Attend Earth Matter staff meetings and Compost Project-related meetings

    ● Perform additional duties as determined by Earth Matter NY

    SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    ● Strong facilitator i.e. can organize well internally and take the lead in a large external group of any age/ability

    ● Knowledge of and commitment to composting, recycling, sustainability efforts, and environmental health, especially in the NYC landscape

    ● Ability to develop educational curriculum, graphics (Canva or Photoshop), collect data, and report metrics

    ● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public, solo, and on a team, in various settings

    ● Willingness to work outdoors in all seasons and on some weekends

    ● Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and perform physically strenuous tasks related to composting

    ● Good sense of humor, flexibility, and openness to learning

    ● Comfortable with and sensitive to a wide range of people and environments

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    ● 1-3 years work experience; preferably some professional experience in education and deep knowledge of compost

    ● Experience with basic office software such as Google Drive, Linktree, Instagram, and Canva

    ● Bachelor’s Degree preferred

    SALARY: $50-55,000/yr. plus base health insurance, commuter benefits, PTO
