    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking a CIVIL HIGHWAY ENGINEER to be based in the Greater Philadelphia Area. AECOM has offices in Philadelphia and Conshohocken, PA as well as Newark, DE.

    In this role, you will provide technical leadership to teams working on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area.

    Current notable projects include:

    • I-95 RECONSTRUCTION (Philadelphia, PA) – Urban interstate reconstruction including interchange ramp and local roadway re-alignments, traffic control, and utility coordination in final design to mitigate level of service and improve existing conditions
    • STATE RD RECONSTRUCTION (Bucks County, PA) – Suburban arterial reconstruction including right-of-way plan development, roadway geometry, pavement design, traffic control, and utility coordination in preliminary engineering to mitigate existing roadway flooding
    • SR1 RECONSTRUCTION (Chester County, PA) – Freeway reconstruction including profile adjustments, interchange reconstruction, interchange ramp realignments, multiple roundabout designs, trail designs, and side road alignment adjustments.
    • US-22 RECONSTRUCTION (Allentown, PA) – Urban interstate widening from 4 to 6 lanes. Project Includes bridge replacement, interchange reconfiguration, stream relocation, sound barriers, safety improvements, traffic control, and utility coordination.
    • I-81 RECONSTRUCTION (Avoca, Moosic, and Scranton, PA) - Urban Interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, 2 interchanges being fully reconstructed including ramp realignments, intersection improvements, right-of- way coordination, and structure coordination for 15 bridges along mainline and ramps.

    The ideal CIVIL HIGHWAY ENGINEER candidate will be experienced in delegating tasks to less experienced engineers and be comfortable providing technical guidance and support to those individuals. The ideal candidate will also be a professional engineer licensed in Pennsylvania who has prior experience with PennDOT publications, manuals, and processes.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
    • Develop rigid and flexible pavement designs
    • Prepare signing and pavement marking plans and details
    • Prepare construction phasing plans and develop maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviews
    • Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
    • Develop construction specifications, quantities, and cost estimates
    • Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques
    • Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards
    • Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
    • Complete interdisciplinary technical reviews
    • Contribute to internal project-related staffing decisions to facilitate meeting client schedule, scope, and budget
    • Prepare presentations that explain technical findings, recommendations, and limitations
    • Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client’s scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making.
    • Provide support to AECOM project managers and department managers

    • Performs technical quality reviews including documentation in project record in accordance with policies and procedures
    • Assists with proposals to provide services or obtain funding for projects or programs
    • Work is accomplished autonomously on small projects or portions of larger projects within established procedures and practices
    • Generally free to determine work priorities based on direction from manager and project team leads
    • Begins to interact directly with client to gather information and discuss project requirements
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus four (4) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, with highway transportation projects located in the United States
    • EIT Certification
    • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
    • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
    • Demonstrated knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Familiarity with OpenRoads, SignCAD or GuideSign, and AutoTURN software programs
    • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License (PE) within 1-2 years
    • Design experience working on projects for PennDOT and/or the PA Turnpike Commission
    • Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work environment with hybrid teams
    • Ability to utilize spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software
    • Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff
