Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to serve as a Resident Project Representative. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the largest and most significant environmental projects in the U.S. The Civil Engineer will oversee the construction of key infrastructure, including water control structures and pump stations, ensuring adherence to design, specifications, and quality standards.
The position involves daily on-site observation and reporting, with a focus on civil, structural, and mechanical aspects of the project. The successful candidate will coordinate with project teams, monitor contractor activities, and ensure the successful delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities: Provide daily on-site observation and reporting for the construction of water control structures (including large roller gates) and a pump station.
- Oversee contractor activities related to the construction of water control structures and pump stations.
- Review and analyze civil, structural, and mechanical plans and specifications, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Evaluate contractor submittals (including RFIs), and review both contractor Quality Control (QC) and project Quality Assurance (QA) data.
- Participate in weekly project progress meetings to provide updates on construction status and address project concerns.
- Perform observation, review, analysis, and reporting on all civil, structural, and mechanical issues related to construction activities.
- Recommend corrective actions based on technical analysis and observations during construction.
- Ensure adherence to ASTM methods for testing and reporting on earthen materials (density, grain size, consolidation, etc.), ACI methods for structural QC/QA, and relevant standards for mechanical equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering, with a focus on construction observation or inspection.
- Experience with large-scale civil projects, particularly involving water control structures and/or pump stations or heavy civil projects
- Strong ability to interpret and comprehend large civil/structural/mechanical plan sets and specifications.
- Experience with USACE construction processes, including familiarity with Definable Features of Work (DFOW) QC systems.
- Knowledge of ASTM testing methods for earthen materials, and ACI methods for concrete QC/QA.
- Familiarity with USACE Engineering Manuals and other guidance related to water control structures and pump stations.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with project teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to provide technical recommendations.
Other Requirements:
- Daily travel to the project site (approximately 40 minutes each way).
- Company truck provided for travel to and from the site.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, meeting project milestones and deadlines.
- Must be adaptable to changing project needs and challenges.
