    About Our Client: Our client is a leading provider of engineering solutions for data centers and public utilities. This position can be hybrid / onsite in Knoxville, Nashville, Lexington, or Cincinnati. This particular project is focused on their Data Center projects in Ohio and Indiana with their expanding customers. Our client is committed to delivering innovative and sustainable designs that meet the evolving needs of their clients. We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer with a focus on substation design to join our client's team.

    Job Summary: The Civil Engineer will be responsible for the design and analysis of civil and structural components for electrical substations serving data centers and public utilities. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing projects, leading teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Project Management: Manage a team of engineers, designers, and interns. Prepare estimates and proposals. Oversee civil project budgets and schedules for multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Design and Analysis: Design steel structures (equipment adaptors, cantilever structures, A-frames, H-frames, lattice bays, HSS bays, walkways, platforms, stairs) and concrete foundations (mat, spread footings, grade beams, turn down slabs, drilled piers, piles). Perform sag and tension design of flexible conductors and electrical bus span design.

    • Site Development: Conduct site walkdowns for oil containment and civil/structural inspections/designs. Design site development components including storm water management, drainage systems, erosion control, grading, and permitting.

    • Review and Quality Control: Review associates’ designs/analyses, shop drawings, and geotechnical investigations. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.

    • Client Interaction: Lead internal and external design meetings. Prepare and deliver safety presentations. Develop and maintain strong client relationships.

    • Regulatory Compliance: Create and seal SPCC plans. Ensure all designs meet regulatory requirements and standards.

    • Electrical Design: Prepare calculations for faults, grounding, lightning protection, rigid bus bracing and support, transformer sizing, AC and DC auxiliary system sizing, arrester and insulator coordination and selection. Develop project specifications for materials, equipment, and construction requirements.

    • Other Electrical Design: Substation design, studies (Arc Flash, System, Capacitor, Grounding, etc.), design support for electrical power supply elements in street lighting and traffic signal designs.

    • SCADA and Security: Point selection of substation IED’s and interfacing SCADA, communications, and security.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license, licensed in multiple states

    • 10+ years of experience in the electrical substation industry

    • Proficiency in designing with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum

    • Experience in designing building modifications and oil containment measures

    • Strong project management and team leadership skills

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Knowledge of NEC and NESC code requirements

    • Familiarity with power utilization equipment including switchgear, protective relays, breakers, transformers, motors, and generators

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in high voltage electric substation design

    • Registered Professional Engineer or an EIT willing to take the PE test within 12 months

    • Willingness to acquire licenses in other states

    • Experience in the utility industry

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with substation firewalls and foundation remediation and repair

    • Knowledge of site development design and permitting processes

    • Familiarity with SPCC plan creation and regulatory compliance
