    Job Description

    AECOM has a position available for a Civil/Structural Designer to support our growing Energy Practice.

    AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

    Our team provides a wide range of civil and structural engineering services across markets sectors including electrical transmission and distribution (OH/UG power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), renewables (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), industrial process (Oil & Gas, petrochemical), building decarbonization and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, carbon capture, etc.). We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to develop within and further the technical skills we bring to our new and existing client base.

    Qualified candidates will have a strong competency in civil and structural design aspects for heavy industrial clients.

    The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in civil and structural design and principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.

    The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

    • Ability to perform as the lead civil/structural designer utilizing direction and sketches from engineers to develop construction package drawings and lead supporting design/drafting team members in the package development
    • Day to day design and preparation of civil and structural deliverables to achieve efficient facility design considering constructability, safety and cost
    • Site general arrangements, location plans, elevations, sections and details
    • Prepare bills of materials and quantity take offs
    • Employ a variety of data sources to build project model environment including but not limited to laser scan, vendor files, existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points and contours
    • Detailed understanding of coordinate systems and the ability to transform data from one system to another
    • Data management (e.g. vendor data, client data) through the project life cycle
    • Performs both routine and non-routine, complex design assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations
    • Maintain open communication with project team (including remote staff) regarding workload planning, task estimating and budgeting
    • Contributes to a complete and integrated set of digital project content which includes but not limited to identification of discipline and vendor interfaces, clashes, etc. by working co-operatively with team members to resolve issues
    • Assist with preparation of project specification and contract documents
    • Applies strong knowledge of industry standards, guides, specifications, and procedures specific to working in with US industrial and power generation facilities
    • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work
    • Review and check work prepared by peers/group
    • Collaborate effectively with US and international design staff to create quality deliverables

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or AA/AS + 6 years of relevant experience
    • High level design and CAD skills
    • Experience in concrete and structural steel design

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 2+ years performing as the lead civil/structural design lead on projects
    • Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
    • Confidence and expertise utilizing Autodesk 2D and 3D platform packages
    • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)
    • Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise and ACC
    • Experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
    • Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
    • Understanding of vendor documentation and it’s use as a reference for assigned tasks
    • Exposure to substation facilities layout and design
    • Experienced in civil site design
