  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking a Clean Energy Policy Advocate to join the Public Policy team of a top renewable energy provider in Northern CA. The ideal candidate will have a background in federal and state legislative and regulatory policy and will represent the organization at legislative proceedings. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert and advocate regarding strategic regulatory and legislative issues and proceedings by presenting leadership with your analysis and recommendations to support the organization's positions and impact future regulations and legislation. Make an impact on state and federal policy by leading our engagement in state and federal legislative matters and through new relationships and coalitions you will build.

    The Clean Energy Policy Advocate will:

    • Work collaboratively on cross-functional priorities related to regulatory and legislative matters.

    • Work with internal leadership, lobbyists, and other partners to create and execute state and federal legislative strategy.

    • Manage a team of legislative analysts, external policy consultants and state and federal lobbyists.

    • Oversee our quarterly newsletter and identify new opportunities to enhance our policy communications strategy.

    • Identify and pursue funding opportunities for federal funding for Ava, and expand our federal relationships and presence

    • Analyze state and federal bills to assess the impacts on the organization and develop our positions.

    • Create technical analyses, reports and presentation materials to support our positions that will shape future regulations and legislation.

    • Build and manage relationships with state and federal legislative delegations as well as new industry relationships and represent the organization’s policy interests to external parties

    • Collaborate with industry associations and through joint ventures to develop policy proposals and consensus positions

    This requires:

    • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master's degree would be preferred

    • A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience, including at least five years in energy, economics, environment or a closely related field in a policy and/or regulatory function

    • Experience representing policy issues in front of state and federal legislatures

    • Excellent written and verbal communication and advocacy skills

    • Experience representing your organization and building consensus with external stakeholders

    • Strong knowledge of renewable energy policy issues

    • Ability to prioritize and be self-directed in a rapidly changing environment

    • Effective leadership skills

    $160,000-$178,000 per year
