    Job Summary:

    Glendale Boat Works, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cleaver-Brooks, is a full-service boatyard primarily servicing inland waterway and harbor vessels. Work ranges from simple dockside repairs to complete overhauls using Glendale’s 400MT Travelift to haul out vessels for land-based repairs. The Operations Manager is responsible for overall operation of the boatyard and acts as the primary point of contact with clients and vendors. He/she is responsible for supporting teams on multiple simultaneous projects and ensuring that the goals and objectives are accomplished safely within the prescribed schedule and budget and to the client’s satisfaction. This role represents an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy detailed planning and project management, vendor and client negotiations, and leveraging their experience and technical problem-solving skills in the repair of the complex mechanical systems and structures in large horsepower towboats.

    Essential Functions:

    • Ensure compliance with all Company Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies and applicable OSHA, USCG, and ABS requirements.
    • Engage Yard personnel and Corporate HSE Manager to document any identified HSE issues and immediately implement any necessary corrective actions.
    • Work with Customer to define a clear project Scope of Work.
    • Develop preliminary project pricing and schedule based on the Scope of Work.
    • Work with Yard Foreman to create and execute the project execution plan using the most cost-effective execution methods available.
    • Monitor project budget and schedule for variances.
    • Maintain timely communications with Customer to set and maintain expectations regarding price and schedule.
    • Coordinate activities with Vendors and Subcontractors.
    • Negotiate pricing with Customers, Vendors and Subcontractors.
    • Develop new and nurture existing Customer relationships.
    • Apply intellect, creativity, adaptability, judgment, and management skills to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines.
    • Employ strong written and oral communication skills and employ effective listening skills.
    • Display tactful, mature, and professional demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work with diverse personnel.
    • Complete required work documentation and administration.
    • Adhere to company policies.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a Maritime related field preferred, high school diploma required.
    • Education, experience, and technical skills will be considered in lieu of formal education.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

    Experience:

    • 10 years of related ship/towboat repair experience.

    • 10 years of construction and field operations

    • Management of 15+ personnel.

    • Management of multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Experience or ability to operate 400MT travel lift.

    • Hands-on operations/maintenance/repair experience on towboat systems, including propulsion, steering.

    • Experience with fabrication, construction and field activities.

    • Ability to read and comprehend vessel drawings and engineering schematics.

    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)

    Physical Skill and Effort:

    Physical demands may require ability to endure frequent physical activity, work long days and handle outdoor elements including a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to access all parts of the boat to examine boat design and repair work, including climbing ladders, enter confined spaces and use proper PPE, including harnesses when over 6 feet off the ground.

    Working Conditions and Hazards:

    Work will be a mix of office and field conditions, with a 60% emphasis in the field and on the boats. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions on site can be expected. Job specific safety training will commonly be required prior to new projects to identify risks and required mitigation steps.
