Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Facility Leader-CRC, this position is responsible for providing information, training, and supervision to PT climbing wall staff as well as assisting members with climbing wall equipment, belaying climbers, and creating a safe and fun environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
Ensures PT staff follow proper wall opening and closing procedures.
Ensure the safety of all patrons utilizing the climbing wall by providing constant supervision and corrective feedback for unsafe practices.
Assist patrons with harnesses and shoes.
Belay patrons on top rope routes.
Maintain positive relations and rapport with users of the climbing wall.
Complete all administrative paperwork during scheduled shift.
Perform regular inspections of climbing wall and climbing equipment; document unsafe equipment, remove it from the inventory for repair or replacement, and notify management.
Recommend equipment purchases to the Facility Leader-CRC.
Make recommendations to Facility Leader CRC on budgeting and staffing levels.
Train all new climbing wall staff and ensure ongoing training for current staff.
Assist in the changing and marking of wall routes, as determined and needed by rout setters.
Perform general custodial and maintenance functions, as necessary.
Assists with recruitment and scheduling of PT climbing wall staff.
Assist in developing content and leading climbing wall staff training.
Teach youth and adult climbing wall classes.
Enforce climbing wall and facility policies and procedures at all times.
Oversee climbing wall staff to ensure procedures are being followed.
Provide feedback to Facility Leader- CRC on individual staff and team performance.
Position Qualifications
One (1) to two (2) years of climbing experience.
Must be customer service oriented and possess the ability to work with the public in a positive manner.
Ability to work with adults and children.
Punctuality and reliability are a necessity. Hours will vary according to schedule, weekend & evening work is required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Climbing ability: 5.9 top rope and 5.8 lead for lead certification 5.7 top rope for non-lead certification, on artificial structures.
Movement demonstrating calm, confidence, good position, balance, solid base of support, no falls, and general body awareness.
Ability to demonstrate a controlled fall, both on a rope and bouldering.
Extensive contact with the public.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time. May periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. Employee may be asked to lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Compensation and Benefits
Climbing Wall Supervisor wage range: $16 - $17/hour
