Cold Heading Engineer - Manufacturing - Base Salary to 130k/year - Cleveland, OH
- Our client, a respected manufacturer with a 70-year legacy of excellence in cold-formed products, is seeking a Cold Heading Engineer to join their team in Cleveland, OH.
- The Cold Heading Engineer will oversee tooling, gaging, and machine repair parts, analyze blueprints and specifications to plan manufacturing processes, prepare production orders, create tooling layouts, and supervise the Tooling Coordinator to ensure adequate stock of tools and repair parts.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and documentation to determine methodologies, techniques, principles, and costs for quoting purposes.
- Prepare manufacturing orders based on sales, plan sequences of operations, and select appropriate machines and methods for part production.
- Create detailed prints and drawings to guide the manufacturing process, utilizing Cadkey 19 software.
- Develop and maintain tooling books and layouts for dies and punches, documenting all tools required for production.
- Supervise the Tooling Coordinator to ensure sufficient stock of tooling and machine repair parts.
- Coordinate with co-workers and external vendors to procure necessary tooling.
- Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other quality control measures as needed.
- Troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, gaging, and other manufacturing issues on the shop floor.
- Purchase machine repair parts as required and ensure drawings are kept updated and organized.
- Collaborate with the Quality Control Department to design and assign gages and gaging procedures.
- Stay informed of new techniques and advancements in the cold heading industry.
- Address all heading-related issues promptly and act in the company’s best interest at all times.
- Participate in continuing education programs as recommended by executive management.
- Adhere to company policies, instructions, and objectives to support overall company goals.
Qualifications:
- Cold heading engineering experience is required
- High school diploma required; Associate degree in engineering preferred
- Relevant experience or on-the-job training
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to read and interpret documents and write reports
- Proficient in basic math and advanced concepts like ratios, percentages, fractions, and proportions
- Ability to use measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data
- Proficient in computer skills, including in-house programs and Cadkey 19
