JOB SUMMARY:
As the Color Cosmetics Formulation and Development Manager, you will work under the guidance of the Vice President of R&D to lead and support the development, execution, and technical advancement of innovative cosmetic formulations. This role requires a hands-on approach to formulation development, from concept to final product, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and compliance with safety protocols. You will actively participate in laboratory work, prototype creation, and formula optimization while driving new product innovations. Additionally, you will provide oversight, leadership, and mentorship to the R&D team, including junior and senior chemists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
JOB DUTIES:
Lead in creating processes and protocols needed to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control measures and safety guidelines.
Responsible for managing raw material supply including requesting costs and MOQs for purchase.
Responsible for obtaining patents and publishing.
Responsible for ensuring lab equipment is calibrated and functioning properly
Contribute to the Product Development activities by both creating novel color formulas, adjusting, and fixing current formulas, and perform all necessary testing including, stability & compatibility testing, physical & chemical testing, and safety, clinical & performance testing as well as guiding more junior chemists on the similar initiatives.
Create, implement, and review product procedures and specifications according to the industry and company’s standards and requirements.
Standardize and document approved formulas to create final master formulas including specifications, procedures, raw material sources and test results.
Actively source and/or develop new raw materials from vendors.
Participate and work closely with the Shanghai team and production facility to execute production batches and ensure the scale ups and technology transfers are properly done between R&D and Production.
Actively conduct research of new technologies, practices, and trends.
Work jointly with the cross functional team (in US and China) in providing necessary documents and building complete dossiers for each product.
Maintain and adhere to the Good Manufacturing Practices within the lab.
Collaborate and participate in management meetings with other team members from different departments, such as product development, packaging, and Shanghai R&D lab.
Assist in resolving technical problems by being part of the entire process of investigation and make recommendations to solve the issue.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemist, Biology, or related field Science; master's degree preferred.
8 - 10 years applicable experience in the cosmetic industry, preferably in color formulation and manufacturing.
Exhibit good judgement, accountability, dependability, planning, and business acumen.
Entrepreneurially spirited through creative problem solving, determination and resourcefulness.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Previous supervisory experience in an R & D environment.
Awareness of industry’s latest technology trends and applications.
Strong organization and time management skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Be willing to participate in training and seminars to boost knowledge and productivity.
Must be thorough, meticulous and detail oriented.
Must be willing to take extended business trips of 1-6 months.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to tolerate sustained standing/walking for up to 8 hours.
Capability to carry, twist, push, pull products, and lift up to 30 lbs.
Good eye-hand coordination.
