Polynesian Voyaging Society Overview
The Polynesian Voyaging Society perpetuates voyaging and wayfinding traditions to ignite the light of ancestral knowledge and forge values-aligned, inclusive relationships that catalyze policies and practices to aloha honua.
Position Summary & Role
The Comms & Marketing Manager will work with the Communications Director to develop strategies to communicate and market PVS and its mission to audiences locally, nationally and internationally. Specific audiences include but are not limited to media, mission partners, and donors/supporters. The Communications & Marketing Manager reports to the Communications Director and will collaborate with the storytelling, advancement and administration staff on communications, organizational messaging and marketing
activities. The Communications & Marketing Manager must:

Primary Duties
• Draft press releases, fact sheets, media advisories, Op-Ed pieces and other PR materials;
• Draft copy for website, electronic newsletter, marketing and outreach collateral and materials;
• Proactively pitch media;
• Handle media inquiries and requests;
• Support advancement, outreach and administrative teams with digital flyers;
• Support storytelling team with social media strategy and content development;
• Update and maintain media database/lists and assist with press release distribution;
• Identify new content opportunities;
• Work with website contractor to monitor traffic and social media analytics.
Desired Skills, Qualities and Experience Communications & Marketing Manager must have at least two years experience in marketing, communications, and project management. Understanding of traditional Pacific seafaring and a firm grasp of “waʻa culture” in the Pacific seafaring community is preferred.
Desired skills include:
• Able to write clearly and concisely, as well as edit the work of others;
• A clear understanding of the PVS voice and messaging;
• Ability to create engaging and informative content;
• Experience with working with print, broadcast and digital media preferred;
• Basic graphic skills using programs such as Canva is a plus;
• Ability to use Excel to create spreadsheets.
Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000/ year based on experience and skills.
This position is currently funded for the duration of the Moananuiākea Voyage. However, depending on business need and/or funding, there may be the possibility of an extension.
