    General Summary

    The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility, engage target audiences, and support overall organizational objectives. They will manage the social media activities by presenting special events for programs, and current events within the organization through presentations on various media outlets to support the mission of Community Action of South Texas (CACOST). This position is responsible for creating, updating, editing, and publishing content for all CACOST’s programs.

    Primary Responsibilities

    1. Develop strategies to engage target audiences through relevant and timely media content.

    2. Build and maintain comprehensive media plans and strategies to achieve organizational mission and programmatic goals.

    3. Monitor media trends and audience behavior to measure media strategies.

    4. Create compelling and relevant content for various media platforms, including social media, websites, and other public announcements.

    5. Oversee content scheduling, publishing, and optimization to maximize reach and engagement.

    6. Coordinate and execute media campaigns, including advertising and promotional activities.

    7. Ensure consistent and accurate representation of the organization’s mission and vision.

    8. Monitor media coverage and analyze the impact of media activities on the company’s objectives.

    9. Prepare detailed reports and presentations on media performance, audience reach, and campaign results.

    10. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with media, staff, and public.

    11. Optimize content for use across multiple communication channels.

    12. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with the areas we serve.

    13. Measure the effectiveness of communications efforts and recommend improvements based on data insights.

    14. Identify and select appropriate media channels, including digital, print, broadcast, and social media.

    15. Track and analyze media coverage to measure the impact of media activities on the company’s objectives.

    16. Work closely within the organization’s programs to ensure cohesive and integrated media strategies.

    17. Other duties as assigned.

    Work Experience Required

    Experience with social media platforms and digital communication strategies.

    Basic knowledge of using analytic tools to track and measure the effectiveness of communication efforts

    Preferred

    Two (2) or more years of experience in communications and multimedia marketing for non-profit agencies.

    Education/Certifications/Licensure Required

    Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

    Skills Required

    Ability to craft clear, engaging, and well-structured content across various platforms.

    Preferred

    Bilingual ability (English/Spanish

    Physical Requirements

    The role primarily involves working at a desk or workstation. Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer are typical. Ability to lift and carry materials such as reports, files, and promotional materials, typically weighing up to 10-15 pounds.

    Non-physical Requirements

    Performing multiple tasks simultaneously, the ability to meet multiple deadlines, judgment decisions, irregular schedules and working as a leader with other employees and teams.
