    Community Health Worker (Full-time Temporary)
    Drop-In Center Program (Webb County)

    ●Seeking highly motivated and responsible individual that wants to work in the field of harm reduction related to substance use.

    Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN’s Drop-In Center Program provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it is designed to offer inclusive and comprehensive services for individuals experiencing crisis events or problem with substances. The Drop-In Center seeks to reduce harm associated with substance use, including overdose and death, and increase recovery initiation.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Provide comprehensive harm reduction prevention services to adolescent and adult program participants who report problems with using alcohol or other substances.

    • Conduct ongoing outreach in the community, to let youth, adults, agencies and organizations know about the program and the services that it provides.
    • Provide naloxone and administration training to program participants.
    • Provide life-skills and curriculum-based education sessions to participants.

    • Provide evidence-based smoking cessation services.
    • Provide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) presentations and positive alternative activities to participants.
    • Provide Behavioral Health and Wellness presentations and positive alternative activities to youth and adult participants.

    • Screen and assess eligible participants.

    • Provide ongoing case management services.

    • Document all services provided to participants.

    Qualifications:
    • A bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences is required; however, degrees in other fields will be considered.
    • Certification as a Nurse Aid (CNA) is preferred.

    • Be knowledgeable of local social service agencies.
    • Good bilingual (English and Spanish) skills are preferred.
    • Must have good computer skills.
    • A valid TX driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.

    Work Schedule and Compensation:
    • The work schedule will vary, but primary work hours will be between 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Mon.,Wed., and Fri. and 1:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Tues. and Thurs. Some weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) will be required.

    • Salary: $17.31 per hour
