    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Community Outreach and Partnerships Manager is a key ambassador for Feeding San Diego, responsible for expanding our visibility, deepening community engagement, managing outreach volunteers, and fostering meaningful partnerships that support our mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue. This role cultivates relationships with Feeding San Diego partners, associations, and alliances, chambers of commerce, and other key stakeholders to drive awareness and support for Feeding San Diego initiatives. Additionally, this position represents Feeding San Diego at community events, speaking engagements, and networking opportunities, identifying strategic collaborations that enhance our reach and impact.

    The ideal candidate is a dynamic relationship-builder with a passion for community service, capable of effectively engaging diverse audiences and managing a team of volunteers and translating connections into lasting partnerships that advance Feeding San Diego’s mission.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Community Engagement and Relationship Building

    • Establish, develop, and strengthen partnerships with local alliances, chambers of commerce, business associations, and community organizations.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for community groups, fostering collaboration and partnership opportunities.
    • Represent Feeding San Diego at networking events, and/or manage staffing to ensure our mission remains top-of-mind among key stakeholders

    Brand Awareness & Community Presence

    • Develop and execute an outreach strategy for different types of events, including major community events, standard engagements, and resource fairs.
    • Identify and participate in strategic events that align with FSD’s mission, fostering meaningful connections and partnerships.
    • Manage incoming requests for representation at community events
    • Work with Senior Brand Manager to develop collateral, signage, merchandise or other elements necessary to enhance brand awareness and messaging at events.
    • Develop strategic engagement opportunities to grow Feeding San Diego’s email list, social media followers, and affinity at community events.
    • Partner with the content team to capture and share impactful stories that expand the narrative around community support of our mission.
    • Work with the communications team to promote community engagement initiatives through social media, press outreach, and/or storytelling.
    • Collaborate with development and volunteer teams on food and fund drives as needed

    Volunteer and Ambassador Program Development

    • Partner with the Volunteer Team to recruit, train, and engage volunteers in support of outreach and community engagement efforts.
    • Work with the Volunteer Team to create onboarding documentation and training materials for volunteers supporting outreach
    • Oversee and manage volunteers involved in outreach initiatives

    Strategy & Analysis

    • Work with Senior Brand Manager to define key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of outreach initiatives, including community engagement, partnership growth, event impact, and volunteer participation.
    • Track and analyze event attendance, audience engagement, and partner involvement to assess effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and partnerships, providing regular reports and insights to guide strategic decision-making.
    • Gather qualitative and quantitative feedback from community partners, volunteers, and event attendees to refine outreach strategies and enhance impact.
    • Work collaboratively with the MarComm team to measure brand awareness growth and audience expansion resulting from outreach efforts.

    INTERACTION

    This position will interact closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications, members of the senior leadership team, the volunteer manager, staff consultants/contractors, community partners, and membership organizations. The position also requires frequent interaction with other Feeding San Diego staff, volunteers, and members of our community.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

    4-7 years of experience in community outreach, partnerships, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit engagement. A college degree is preferred but not required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, from corporate partners to grassroots organizations.
    • Experience developing volunteer programs and managing community engagement initiatives.
    • Excellent communication and public speaking skills to effectively represent Feeding San Diego at external events.
    • Understanding of social media, branding, and storytelling to support outreach and marketing efforts.
    • Ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners to drive engagement.
    • Passion for Feeding San Diego’s mission and commitment to addressing hunger and food waste in the community.
    • Flexibility to attend community events, including on evenings and weekends.
    • Strong written and verbal communication.
    • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Professional demeanor with strong organizational skills and initiative.
    • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
    • Ability to drive Feeding San Diego Sprinter van to/from events and set-up tent, table, and other activation elements
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook)

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

    Personal computer, multi-line phone, copier, and printer.

    Training will be provided for driving a Sprinter van as needed.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

    • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license
    • A satisfactory driving record, proof of personal vehicle insurance, and the ability to be insured under the organization’s insurance carrier are required.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee will be asked to successfully perform to fulfill the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly expected to:

    • Work in an office adjacent to a warehouse setting with frequent travel to locations across San Diego County.
    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time as well as frequently transport objects between floors
    • Occasionally move, position, install, and remove objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • Prioritize and multi-task work and projects requiring good memory, concentration and analytical thinking. Occasionally it is required to perform the safe operation of office equipment and machines and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
    • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but this office is maintained in a distribution center with machinery and large trucks.

    PAY & HOURS

    $68,500 - $71,000, Hybrid M, T, TH in FSD office and W & F remote. Primarily community based with additional evening and weekend hours as needed .
