    About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco's homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

    About the program: Compass Children's Center (CCC) is an early childhood education center with a curriculum tailored to meet the specific needs of children experiencing poverty and homelessness. The Center serves 70 children, ages 0-5, and their families each day, and addresses the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of the children, as well as the functioning and well-being of the families.

    Compensation: $23-26 hourly + full benefits (health/dental/vision/paid time off/retirement/etc.)

    Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9am - 1:30pm (4.5 hours per day)

    **Responsibilities:
    ** The Kitchen Aide prepares meals for the children of Compass Children's Center, maintains a clean and safe kitchen, and works with the Assistant Director to ensure that the program adheres to all requirements set forth by the California Adult & Childcare Food Program.

    Duties include:

    • FOOD PREP: check that food has arrived and is properly stored; cut up fruit; distribute food in serving dishes; deliver to classrooms
    • CLEANING: wash infant bottles; collect dishes from classrooms; wash, sanitize and store dishes; clean and sanitize counters; clean up spills in the fridge and oven; sweep floors; ensure all food prep areas are clean at end of shift
    • FOOD STORAGE: Check the temperature of refrigerators, kitchen and ovens; rotate milk and fruit to maintain freshness; keep storage room organized; post weekly menu

    Required Qualifications: __

    • At least 18 years old.
    • Able to lift at least 30 lbs.
    • Able to stand, bend, move, lift and carry food trays, pans, dishes.
    • Fluent in English
    • Health screening, TB and fingerprint clearance (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index)
    • Able to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision
    • Strong work habits: reliable, clear communication, responsible, team player

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Compensation: $23-26 per hour, 4.5 hours per day, 5 days per week
    • Paid time off: just under 4 weeks of vacation your first year, just under 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave, and paid time off for education.
    • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
    • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests over years 2-5.

    Location and Covid Safety:

    • Work location: 144 Leavenworth Street, San Francisco
    • Covid vaccination required for all staff, including booster when eligible
