    About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco's homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

    Salary range: $30 - $40 per hour + full benefits

    Schedule: Monday - Friday during standard business hours

    Responsibilities:

    The Shelter Programs Administrative Assistant supports the Senior Director of Shelter Programs to manage a portfolio of shelter programs serving homeless and at-risk San Francisco families. This includes clerical and administrative support of the day-to-day work of the Senior Director of Shelter Programs and providing direct support to those programs.

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Provide calendar management and scheduling for the Senior Director of Shelter Programs, as well as ongoing support with email, phone calls and voicemail, and time-tracking.
    • Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, and reports.
    • Support the Senior Director to ensure that each Compass shelter program maintains documented protocols and procedures.
    • Manage credit card reporting, receipt tracking, and expense approval process.
    • Schedule and run reports in the homeless services data tracking system.
    • Assist with budget and expense reviews, file audits, and monitoring.
    • Attend program staff meetings and other meetings, supporting with note- and minute-taking as needed.
    • Assist with research related to housing and employment, including housing market trends, government rental assistance programs, and community resources.
    • Create and manage a master calendar for all activities relevant to Compass shelter programs.

    The Shelter Programs Administrative Assistant should have these skills:

    • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by homeless and at-risk families
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, to be tested as part of the interview process
    • Highly organized with impeccable attention to detail; able to manage competing priorities
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong research and computer skills
    • Quick learner
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Salary range: $30 - $40 per hour depending on experience.
    • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, time off for education, family leave.
    • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children.
    • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-5.

    Location and Covid Safety:

    • Work location: 37 Grove St. (less than a block from Civic Center BART/Muni).
    • Covid vaccination required for all staff
