Job Description
ORIC Pharmaceuticals, Inc, is a clinical stage oncology company dedicated to improving patients’ lives and focused on developing treatments that address mechanisms of therapeutic resistance. We are excited to offer an 8–10-week summer internship in the Medicinal Chemistry group to a highly motivated student. You will take part in efforts to design and prioritize drug leads with optimal properties for ORIC’s discovery programs. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with medicinal chemists and DMPK scientists you will have the opportunity to gain exposure of working with a fast-paced drug discovery team. This position provides the opportunity to obtain hands-on biotechnology experience under close mentorship, while contributing to meaningful projects.
Responsibilities
Apply machine learning methods to develop predictive models for compound design and prioritization
Leverage internal datasets, identify and curate publicly available DMPK datasets to use for model training
Leverage open-source toolkits for molecular feature extraction, and model building
Maintain detailed documentation of methodology and underlying code
Communicate results verbally and through impactful presentation in team meetings and working groups
Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s/Masters/PhD program at an accredited US based university or college, majoring in Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning or related programs (we will consider PhD, masters, or undergraduate students with relevant experience)
Must be at least 18 years old with a minimum GPA of 2.8
Knowledge and experience in modern machine learning methods, feature extraction, and model evaluation for building robust and predictive models using sparse datasets
Strong experience in using Python for complex data analysis, data visualization, and building ML models
Knowledge of using REST API, web scraping methods for data extraction, data pipelining methods (e.g. KNIME), and chemistry toolkits (e.g. RDKit) will be preferred
Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
