POSITION: ELECTRICIAN
LOCATION: LIBERTYVILLE, IL
SALARY: $30.47
JOB SUMMARY: Becoming an Electrician would allow you to repair, maintain and install electrical systems and equipment, such as motors, transformers, wiring switches and motor-control devices. Locate and determine electrical malfunctions by troubleshooting using test instruments such as a multimeter, megohm resistance meter, amp recorder and amp probe. Plan new or modified layout and installation to minimize waste of materials and provide access for future maintenance. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on various electrical systems at pump stations, sanitary sewer plants, drinking water reservoirs and other county owned facilities. Run conduit and wire buildings and make additions to existing wiring including running cables and stringing overhead wire. Repair and maintain PLC electronic controls, electric motor controls and variable frequency drives. Plan, direct and record periodic electrical testing and recommend or indicate modification or replacement for equipment which fails to meet acceptable operation. Plan work schedules, request supplies and maintain detailed work records. This position works Monday through Friday from 7:00am – 3:30pm and must be available for occasional overtime duty, weekend duty and 24-hour call on a rotating basis.
In order to be successful in this role you should have a good knowledge of the standard practices, tools and terminology of the electrical trade as well as the elementary electrical theory and use of testing equipment. The ability to safely work with electricity up to 600 volts. This individual must have completed a standard high school program or GED and successful completion of 8000 hours of work required for designation as a journeyman electrician and two years of experience at the level of journeyman electrician. They must also possess a valid driver’s license, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record.
