POSITION SUMMARY:
The 2nd Shift Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring safety, quality, efficiency, schedules, budget, housekeeping, and required documentation. The Supervisor is responsible for partnering with Team Leaders to provide supervision of assembly, paint, and fabrication department employees, including coordination of daily activities with 1st shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all aspects of the 2nd Shift assembly, paint, and fabrication departments according to project drawings, requirements, and customer specifications while ensuring an efficient operation in achieving business targets.
- Communicate values, strategies, objectives, and job expectations; plan, monitor, and appraise job results; train, coach, counsel, and discipline employees; initiate, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate with 1st shift team to ensure continuity of projects and schedule.
- Review project progress vs estimated labor hours to assure projects are on targeted schedule for completion. Track internal and external change orders for “out of scope” and rework items.
- Provide leadership to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure on-time deliveries, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and quality standards are met in order to meet the requirements of the customer.
- Ensure that all quality check procedures put in place by the company are followed during every production phase.
- Perform non-conformity investigation, document root cause, and resolve problems.
- Create/revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s) for consistency.
- Conduct yourself as an agent of Roeslein’s Leadership, always representing the company goals and policies in a positive, professional manner leading by example.
- Complete performance reviews for direct reports and be actively involved in all other department member reviews. Provide regular feedback and coaching for continued growth and development of all department members. Monitor skills matrix for gaps and training opportunities.
- Participate in required meeting, including but not limited to: daily department meetings, Kick-Off Meetings, production meetings, lessons learned, manpower meetings, and leadership training events. Follow approved procedures and formats when available.
- Respond timely to emails and phone calls.
- Display a high regard for the attendance policy through personal example with minimal unexcused outages.
- Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge of all duties in the department.
- Complete initial PDI inspections.
- Responsible for area housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures. Potential exposure to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift, push, pull, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required. Must be able to stand and walk 80% of the time and sit 20% of the time.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILL/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
- At least five (5) years of manufacturing and/or construction is strongly preferred.
- Experience with fabrication tools is required.
- Supervisory experience is required.
- Ability to work 1st shift, split shift, or 2nd shift with one week’s notice.
- Ability to read blueprints and other technical documents is required; must be able to layout steel and pipe per drawings.
- Must possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as initiative and the ability to delegate decision making and other responsibilities. Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues. Must work well under pressure.
- Ability to read and understand schedules and basic business acumen is required.
- Computer skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs is required. Must be able to learn additional software; Viewpoint, SharePoint, Navisworks, RoesTrac, etc.
- Strong math skills are required.
- Ability to work flexible hours with weekend and some holiday work required.
