Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Construction Controller / Accountant to take charge of our financial management and job costing processes. This role will be instrumental in developing financial systems, improving accounting processes, and ensuring profitability across projects. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting
Establish and oversee all financial processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
Prepare and present financial statements, including balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports.
Develop financial forecasting models to support our company’s growth strategy.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction industry accounting standards.
Lead month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Job Costing & Budgeting
Implement and maintain job cost tracking systems to ensure accurate project financials.
Work closely with project managers to monitor budgets, control costs, and improve profitability.
Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports and analyze variances between estimated and actual costs.
Assist in setting up and refining internal cost control measures.
Payroll & Compliance
Process payroll, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage laws and certified payroll requirements.
Manage subcontractor payments, retainage, and lien waivers.
Oversee tax compliance, including sales tax, use tax, and financial reporting requirements.
Support audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Cash Flow & Risk Management
Monitor and manage company cash flow, including billing, collections, and payment schedules.
Assist in securing financing, credit lines, and bonding as needed for company growth.
Work with insurance and bonding companies to maintain proper coverage and financial security.

Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
5+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of construction job costing, WIP reporting, and financial management.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300/Timberline, Viewpoint, Procore).
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred Experience
Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, or specialty trades.
Knowledge of AIA billing, progress billing, and contract retainage.
Familiarity with insurance, bonding, and construction risk management.
