    Position Summary

    The Construction Crew Leader performs various construction activities, leads volunteers in volunteer related construction tasks, performs lot maintenance activities and assists in maintaining warehouse/production facility as needed. This is a hands-on position that provides on-site coordination for major tasks being conducted during a construction day. The Construction Crew Leader is responsible for quality control and job site safety and for the daily operations of assigned construction tasks and projects. This position requires the ability to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds, strong time management and organizational skills, and a commitment to HabiJax’s mission, vision, and values.

This is a full-time position based in Jacksonville, Florida, and the standard weekly hours are Tuesday through Saturday 7am-4pm.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Safely operate HabiJax vehicles, tools and equipment in performing operations for construction and deconstruction tasks. Ensure the necessary tools and equipment are on the site for specific tasks.
    • Complete construction work projects including but not limited to framing, trim work, hanging doors and installing hardware, installing vinyl siding with trim, installing house wrap and windows, painting, installing accessories, and landscaping.
    • Assist with home warranty calls and provide outstanding service and communication to our homeowners.
    • Lead volunteers in the successful completion of various construction activities. Ensure volunteers have a positive and meaningful experience during their volunteerism.
    • Provide on-the-job training and supervision for semiskilled and unskilled volunteers working on construction and warehouse projects. Assess the abilities of volunteers and assign tasks accordingly. Train volunteers in the proper use of equipment and other safe construction practices and monitor observation of safety rules.
    • Establish and maintain a proper work pace. Watch for signs of heat-related issues and encourage adequate water intake. Stress to volunteers the importance of quality construction.
    • Answer specific questions about the tasks at hand, as well as general questions about house construction. Exercise patience and respect for volunteers at all times.
    • Safely use and maintain in good working order all hand and power tools. Maintain a safe work environment for volunteers and staff. Correct any safety issues; complete and submit Incident Report for any injuries that occur. Understand and follow all OSHA guidelines for on-site safety.
    • Anticipate problems and take responsibility for solving them on the work site to ensure schedules and work plans are met. Understand and follow workflow schedules.
    • Report any mechanical problems with vehicles, tools, or equipment to supervisor immediately.
    • Assist with the loading and unloading of construction materials. Assist in maintaining warehouse/production facility as needed. Perform lot maintenance activities as needed.
    • Coordinate and collaborate with department and HabiJax staff.
    • Adhere to HabiJax and Construction department policies and procedures.
    • Be aware of and advocate for the mission, vision, and values of HabiJax and Habitat for Humanity.
    • Perform additional duties as required and directed.

    Education, Experience, and Job Requirements

    • High School diploma or equivalent required
    • 1+ years of construction experience required
    • Experience with interior and exterior home repair and maintenance work required.
    • Experience with the safe operation of power tools required
    • Experience leading groups or teams preferred
    • Ability to organize tools and materials to work effectively while maintaining a clean work site
    • Absolute commitment to job safety
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to manage time and resources effectively to meet established goals & deadlines
    • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
    • Computer proficiency to include the use of Microsoft Office and other required software applications
    • Valid Driver’s License insurable by HabiJax’s insurance carrier
    • Ability to successfully pass a background and drug screening
