Orion Engineers, LLC is currently seeking an experienced Senior Construction Engineer to join our growing team in Chicagoland area. In the role of Senior Construction Engineer you will work on a diverse project portfolio with government agencies in Illinois. Additionally, in this construction engineer role you will work closely with clients, other project managers, and support staff to ensure the successful completion of transportation/roadway related projects for our clients. Key to succeeding in this role will be your ability to coordinate staff efforts to ensure timely and cost-effective solutions to demanding project requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors contractor adherence to plans, specifications and approved shop drawings; assuring construction methods are properly coordinated with Facility Operations and are performed safely; administering contracts within Illinois standards; investigating construction problems and determining the need for extra work.
Manage day-to-day construction oversight/Construction Engineering efforts on large transportation projects
Exerts influence over Contractors to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, quality, etc.
Use effective oral and written communication skills to effectively lead progress, project, safety, scheduling during construction progress meetings with client(s)
Verify that the required material inspection and testing is performed and documented.
Familiarity with Chicago area agencies and Municipalities such as IDOT, CDOT, and ISTHA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
5-8 years of construction management experience.
Possession of a valid Illinois Professional Engineer License is a plus.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills as evidenced from experience in managing and settling contractor disputes.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely-related field
Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as needed.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
