    Title: Controller/Accounting Manager

    Shift: 7am-4pm, M-F

    Pay: $100k-110k

    Location: Solon, OH (but will be asked to go to Canton, OH from time to time)

    About our Client:

    Our client sells, rents and services waste and recycling equipment across the United States. They provide equipment solutions throughout the waste and recycling industry which encompasses a large customer base and marketplace for us to operate in, leaving them with great opportunities for growth. They are a family owned and operated business that offers flexibility and care for their people, but also offers competitive compensation and benefits.

    Our client is seeking to expand their team with an immediate need for a Controller to lead their internal finance function across multiple service lines (rental, service, installation, and sales). This role will oversee all financial operations and the financial function of the business. The role will ensure timely month end close, accurate reporting, build scalable systems, and manage a small internal team. The right candidate will also have some experience in HR. You’ll work directly with the President and leadership team to bring clarity, confidence, and momentum to their financial reporting and decision-making. This is a newly created position, so the right candidate will help to drive whatever the role looks like for themselves.     Controller/Accounting Manager Responsibilities:

    Accounting Oversight & Reporting

    • Own the full month-end close process
    • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, including capitalized assets and job costs
    • Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Revenue by Line of Business)
    • Track and improve financial KPIs including DSO, AR aging, margin per class, and revenue per employee

    Team Management

    • Supervise and mentor small team; review their work for accuracy
    • Partner with others in the team to drive projects
    • Serve as point person for CPA firm and fractional CFO; reduce dependence on both over time

    System & Process Improvement

    • Build SOPs for billing, A/P, A/R, payroll entries, inventory, job costing
    • Lead transition to a new accounting system if needed (away from QuickBooks)
    • Build financial dashboards and improve visibility for leadership

    Compliance & Tax

    • Oversee sales tax filings, vendor compliance, 1099s, and basic audit readiness
    • Coordinate with outside CPA on tax prep, filings, and year-end

    What Success Looks Like

    • Clean, timely, and accurate financials each month
    • Clear job-level profitability and SG&A allocations
    • Reduction in manual accounting tasks through automation or system improvements
    • Improved leadership visibility into cash flow, margins, and business health
    • A well-structured finance function ready to scale

    About you:

    • 5–8+ years in accounting, with experience managing a team
    • Experience in a construction, equipment rental, or service-based company
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and multi-entity or multi-class reporting
    • Experience with QuickBooks and at least one other ERP system
    • Proficient in Excel, financial reporting, and building process documentation
    • Detail-oriented but strategic, able to toggle between tactical and big-picture work
    • Bonus: experience helping a company through a finance function “level up” stage
