Job Summary:
Local Dallas Based non-profit is seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven Controller to oversee the financial operations of our organization. This role will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and internal controls to support the organization’s strategic initiatives. The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability, supporting leadership with key financial insights, and maintaining fiscal responsibility to advance organization's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and nonprofit financial standards.
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating with department heads to ensure financial alignment with organizational goals.
Monitor cash flow, ensuring efficient financial management and sustainability of operations.
Oversee grant financial management, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with donor and grantor requirements.
Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and external auditors to provide transparent financial oversight and strategic guidance.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings and audit requirements.
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making and long-term financial planning.
Manage and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional development.
Partner with HR and operations teams to manage payroll processing and benefits administration.
Qualifications & Experience:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and financial compliance requirements.
Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational sustainability.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proven leadership experience in managing financial teams and fostering collaboration across departments.
