A leading provider of excavation, grading, and site development services is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all aspects of the company’s financial operations. The organization specializes in delivering high-quality earthworks solutions for commercial, residential, and public infrastructure projects.
Position Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. This role requires strong knowledge of construction accounting, project costing, and cash flow management. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and ensure compliance with GAAP
Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
Ensure accurate job costing and project accounting for multiple ongoing construction projects
Collaborate with project managers to analyze project performance and financial outcomes
Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures
Coordinate with external accountants for year-end audits and tax preparation
Lead process improvements and system implementations to improve financial reporting and efficiency
Provide financial insights and strategic guidance to leadership for informed business decisions
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in a Controller or senior-level finance role
Experience in construction or project-based accounting is highly preferred
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar ERP systems)
Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
