Position Summary: The Controller at Telly will be a hands-on financial contributor responsible for the company's financial reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, especially as they relate to growing technology companies, and the ability to prepare the company for future audits. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives working in a fast-paced startup environment and is passionate about contributing to Telly's growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP, ensuring proper accounting treatment for our unique business model that has both components of an advertising technology business and hardware business.
- Bookkeeping: Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Internal Controls: Design and implement effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Compliance: Stay up-to-date on relevant accounting standards and regulations, ensuring the company's financial practices remain compliant.
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Support with forecasting, close, and variance analysis.
- Audit Preparation: Lead the preparation for financial audits, liaise with external auditors, and ensure all necessary documentation is in order.
- Team Management: Oversee bookkeeping staff or external accounting support, ensuring efficient and accurate financial operations.
- Collaboration with Business Intelligence: Provide BI team with financial key performance indicators (KPIs) of the business and provide insights on cost management and operations.
Qualifications:
- Organizational Skills: This role can’t have things slip through the cracks. Being extremely organized and detail-oriented is a must.
- Tech Expertise: Deep understanding of accounting for growing technology startups; understanding of advertising technology and hardware (inventory management) a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to proactively identify and resolve accounting-related issues.
- Leadership: Experience managing and leading a small team of employees and contractors with a player/coach mindset.
- Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Education: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA, or public accounting experience strongly preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in a high-growth startup environment.
- Experience with inventory management and/or hardware business is a plus.
- Experience in advertising technology is a plus.
- Must have audit experience.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar accounting platforms. Familiarity with ERP systems is a plus.
