  • Responsibilities

    The Controller position with our client is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting and financial operations. This role includes managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company's growth and profitability. The ideal candidate will be adept at leading and developing a high-performing team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Financial Management and Reporting:

      • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
      • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to management.
      • Assist the VP Finance with forecasting and monitoring key financial metrics and performance indicators.

    Team Management:

      • Oversee the Accounts Receivable Specialist and the receivables process.
      • Oversee the Accounts Payable Specialist and the payables process.
      • Create and implement policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues.

    Internal Controls and Compliance:

      • Ensure compliance with all accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
      • Coordinate and manage internal and external audits, including the preparation of audit schedules and reports.
      • Assist the VP Finance in the development of key internal controls.

    Cash Flow Management:

      • Monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and investments.
      • Optimize working capital and oversee the credit and collections process.

    General Ledger and Financial Systems:

      • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of all financial transactions.
      • Implement and maintain accounting software systems and processes.
      • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data.

    Inventory and Cost Accounting:

      • Oversee inventory accounting for vehicles, parts, and service departments.
      • Ensure accurate costing and valuation of inventory.

    Tax Compliance and Planning:

      • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including sales tax, property tax, and income tax.
      • Identify tax planning opportunities and work with tax advisors to optimize tax strategies.
      • Stay updated on tax laws and regulations relevant to the business.

    Team Leadership and Development:

      • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
      • Provide training and support to team members on accounting policies and best practices.
      • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
    • CPA required.
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting or controllership role.
    • Experience in the automotive or truck dealership industry is highly preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
