    SALARY: $17.50hr

    STATUS: Full time

    Incumbent serves as the Cook for St. Joseph County Community Corrections, responsible for preparing meals daily for residents at the facility, staff and guests.

    Responsibilities

    Meal Preparation & Cooking – Prepare and cook meals according to a set menu that meets nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions.

    Food Safety & Sanitation – Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to prevent contamination and maintain cleanliness.

    Kitchen Maintenance – Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, appliances, and workspaces to maintain a safe and organized kitchen.

    Supervision – Oversee resident workers providing guidance and ensuring tasks are completed properly.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Previous cooking experience in an institutional, correctional, or large-scale food service setting is a plus. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (ServSafe preferred certification). Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.

    Education/Experience


    High school diploma or GED preferred.

    Physical Requirements


    Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often for the entire shift.

    Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions with hands and arms.

    Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including bulk food supplies and kitchen equipment.

    Ability to work in a hot and humid environment, with exposure to kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, and steamers.
