    Job Description

    AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD:

    The Trader Assistant is a critical part of Coppice's supply chain management process. Coppice connects both domestic and international buyers and suppliers of physical forest product commodities using a highly detailed approach. Your role as Lumber Trader Assistant directly influences our path to realizing our long-term goals. The position objective is to work alongside traders and other operations coordinators to align with Coppice's growth objectives and maintain/organize all trader activities. Commodities include but are not limited to: Softwood/Hardwood lumber import/export, Plywood and Logs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    As a Trader Assistant, your role is to support Trading teams in order to facilitate commodity imports and exports from procurement to final delivery. The Trader Assistant will communicate with buyers/suppliers, arrange trucking and ocean logistics, synergize with the inland/ocean transportation teams handling inland intermodal/drayage/trucking vendors, create and manage ocean bookings, meet internal KPIs.

    EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 5+ years of experience in lumber or plywood industry. Experience in import/export and domestic logistics.
    • Ability to build operational procedures. Forest products compliance knowledge required.
    • Computer skills, including frequent prior use of MS Outlook, Excel and Word are required.
    • Excellent math skills, along with the ability to calculate freight measurements, weight and convert to international units when necessary
    • Familiarity with domestic and international geography including countries and major cities/ports and cultures
    • Extreme attention to detail, including the ability to predict and circumvent issues before they occur and taking the proper corrective action
    • Ability to be highly productive while keeping focus under pressure • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. strong problem-solving and multitasking skills are a must. Strong organizational skills are critical for this role.
