JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plans, coordinates, and directs quality assurance program designed to ensure quality production of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.
RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES:
Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives complementary to Company policies and goals.
Performs quality reviews of documentation and practices to ensure compliance with stated requirements, including but not limited to quality manuals, HACCP program, Master Cleaning Schedule, Pest Control Program, GMPs, Allergen Control program, Organic Control Program, SQF and Company quality records. Performs as primary SQF Practitioner.
Responsible for implementing and enforcing all food safety and quality policies.
Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
Reviews data obtained during quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.
Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
Maintains a current working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
Plays an active role on quality management teams within the organization.
Designs and implements quality assurance training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality.
Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
Displays willingness to make decisions and exhibits sound and accurate judgment.
Makes timely decisions and communicates changes effectively.
Includes appropriate people in decision-making process and supports and explains reasoning for decisions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Supervisor(s) and hourly non-supervisory employees in the Quality Assurance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in food science, food technology, chemistry or related field, and three to five years experience in a Quality Assurance Management role and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs..
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess proficient typing abilities, and have knowledge of Spreadsheet Software (MS Excel) , Word Processing Software (MS Word) Database Software (MS Access) and Email Software).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Juice HACCP Certification and SQF Practitioner Certification preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however the employee may be required to enter production areas where the noise level is usually loud and hearing protection is required.
