Court Reporter - PRN for Aberdeen Proving Grounds

Job Description
Provide court recording and transcription services (electronic) for fact finding conferences, negotiations, hearings, depositions, and other legal meetings or event incident to litigation or investigation.
Transcriber shall be fully prepared to commence performance no later than the time specified in each individual order at time of issuance. Events normally begin at 0800 hours Eastern Standard Time, unless otherwise noted. Events will normally last eight (8) hours per day but there is the possibility that they may last longer than eight (8) hours per day, or less. In no event shall an event require more than ten (10) hours of performance in a single day.
Personnel and qualifications
****This contract includes all functions, tasks and responsibilities normally performed by a Court Reporter. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing a certified Court Reporter and will prepare an E-transcript to include the index, of the verbatim testimony of the Investigation and Resolutions Division (IRD)
EEO Fact Finding Conference (FFC) or EEOC hearing.
Court Reporter Qualifications and Skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to operate stenography equipment and other tools used to take notes and produce transcripts of court
proceedings.
• Excellent written communication skills, including a strong command of grammar and mechanics.
• Strong attention to detail, especially when recording gestures and other types of nonverbal communication.
• A high degree of accuracy is required.
• Understanding of legal compliance requirements.
• Capacity to work independently from general supervision (must be self-motivated once given direction/guidance).
• Transcripts are prepared and distributed with 98.5% accuracy.
• Set up and dismantle stenographic machine and computerized Realtime reporting hardware and software, audio,
and other related equipment in the courtroom, conference rooms, judge's chambers, or other locations as directed.
• During proceedings, upon request, locate and read back portions of proceedings.
• Operate a stenographic machine at 200 wpm.
• Read back verbatim records.
• Remain seated for long periods of time.
• Concentrate for long periods of time.
Proficient knowledge of
• Legal and related technical terminology
• Advanced spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and grammar skills
• The English language **
Education & Experience Requirements**
****Two-year degree or professional certificate in court reporting Court Reporters with at least one year of professional
experience.
• A high school diploma.
• Successful completion of a court reporting training program from a recognized program NCRA and Maryland
(federal government).
The Contractor must deliver one (1) certified copy in the form of an email to the IRD investigator within 14 days
after the EEO fact-finding is concluded in accordance with his/her onsite instructions to the Court Reporter. If the
complaints investigated have two or more complainants, an additional copy of the transcript is required for each
additional complainant. Email one (1) original itemized invoice of the incurred cost to the following office for
prompt payment: Installation Management Command, United States Army Garrison Aberdeen Proving Ground,
One email copy of the transcript, to include the index, will be sent to the Aberdeen
Proving Ground EEO Office within 14 calendar days after the EEOC Hearing is concluded.
