    Crematorium Specialist

    Galveston County Health District is seeking a dedicated Crematorium Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will manage crematory operations, including scheduling, record-keeping, and routine maintenance, while also performing duties as an Animal Care Technician.

    What You'll Do:

    • Perform daily tasks as outlined for an Animal Care Technician
    • Manage crematory scheduling, records, and routine equipment maintenance
    • Order urns and supplies, maintain crematory areas, and ensure cleanliness
    • Participate in special projects and training events
    • Implant microchips for ARC and public animals
    • Provide animal care, including feeding, handling, and custodial duties
    • Perform euthanasia and document drug usage as per policy
    • Empty freezer and dispose of contents as needed
    • Track shelter supplies and notify Director when restocking is required
    • Maintain shelter property and complete the required paperwork
    • Accurately enter data into the Shelter Pro system
    • Ensure the safety of citizens and cross-train with administrative staff
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor ****

    What We're Looking For:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Experience with specialized equipment operation and maintenance
    • Euthanasia certification within 6 months of hire
    • Animal control or animal handling experience preferred
    • Skills in handling large/aggressive animals and administering injections preferred
    • Previous animal shelter experience preferred
    • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks
    • Valid Texas driver's license and reliable transportation
    • Customer service-oriented with strong communication skills
    • Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
    • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours as needed
    • Compliance with GCHD immunization and ICS training policies

    Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
