CRIMSON EDUCATION'S ESSAY REVIEW TEAM (ERT) is a panel of expert editors who review and evaluate undergraduate university application essay drafts, written by prospective applicants alongside their US Application Mentors. The ERT provides thorough, comprehensive, and thoughtful feedback on these essays, evaluating them on structure, grammar, accessibility, and theme - among other essential college essay considerations - within the context of each student's overall academic and extracurricular profile. The unbiased third-party feedback that the ERT provides not only gives students and mentors an expert perspective on the essay areas to improve upon to best strengthen admissions candidacy, but also presents concrete, constructive, and actionable steps for both students and mentors to review and implement as they proceed with essay revisions.

In addition to writing and editing expertise, those best-fit for this position will have a strong sense of the essay characteristics colleges look for in application essays, the ability to complete tasks on tight deadlines, and consistent communication with administrators when apprehensive or unclear on specific guidelines.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

    • Reading/comprehending the Essay Review Team Handbook and abiding by the departmental rules listed
    • Completing training including attending online seminars
    • Providing comments and feedback to applicants as assigned by Crimson HQ
    • Using the Student Profile to contextualize overall candidacy and guide essay comments/feedback accordingly
    • Reviewing personal statements for all applications (to the Common App, to the University of California system, etc.)
    • Completing each essay review using our specific guidelines including making sure that applicants cover all extracurriculars, academic achievements, awards, etc.
    • Reviewing and commenting on written work/supplementary essays that accompany the larger applications enumerated above to ensure that they have completed all components of the essays to the universities assigned to you for each student.
    • Providing summarized feedback to your students' Mentors including recommendations regarding content, style, theme, structure, voice, etc.
    • Using our rubric to rate each essay to further inform the students' Mentor.

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

You are a current student or graduate of a TOP 25 UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM IN THE US, a professional writer, or a professional educator.

You are an Excellent Communicator:  This job requires the capacity to communicate with Crimson employees with clarity, professionalism, and kindness. You will be expected to be responsive to all communications within 24 hours, including on weekends, and you will be compensated for these additional hours.  You are Organized:  This position requires organization and keeping track of the essay drafts and case details of 8-9 students.
