    Job Description

    CURTIS LUMBER IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! Our Ray Brook location is currently looking to immediately fill a Branch Manager Manager position. Curtis Lumber continues to go with over 600 employees and 23 locations, in both New York and Vermont.

    To profitably manage all retail lumber sales, operations and personnel in order to ensure positive growth and to carry out long and short term corporate goals

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT

    • Define employee responsibilities, monitor daily activity and delegate or assign work

    • Prepare and distribute work schedules to ensure proper staffing/coverage of store and yard

    • Challenge and develop employees’ performance, provide feedback, and hold direct reports accountable for their goals and job responsibilities

    • Work with Human Resources Manager to coach and/or discipline employees appropriately and as needed

    • Ensure timely, accurate review of weekly time record reports and employee expenses for payroll processing

    • Ensure all company directives, procedures, policies, etc. are understood and adhered to.

    • Conduct interview process for new hires and hire/fill positions as needed following proper procedures and using proper documentation

    • Motivate employees and offer opportunity and reward appropriately

    • Work with HR on potential employee terminations/employee issues; terminate employees when appropriate

    • Make efforts to control employee turnover

    • Prepare and present employees with quality and timely performance evaluations

    • Oversee all store operations

    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

    • Maintain a neat, clean store and yard appearance

    • Practice good merchandising including setup and traffic flow

    • Ensure proper merchandising and advertising for all sales, promotions and events.

    • Maintain inventory levels and notify appropriate person of out stocks

    • Rotate stock

    • Manage shrink by utilizing proper procedures for cull and damaged product

    • Assist with physical inventory and cycle counts

    • Ensure that all company assets, including vehicles, equipment, buildings, etc. are properly maintained.

    • Analyze daily reports and paper work for sales, security, gross profit, etc.

    • Control and monitor account receivables, C.O.D.’s and bad checks.

    SALES EXPECTATIONS

    • Understand the marketplace
    • Know product features
    • Manage order profitability
    • Ensure department is prepared on a daily basis for sales and promotions
    • Demonstrate and teach effective upgrade selling and closing techniques
    • Set example for employees; teach and mentor

    BUSINESS GROWTH/DEVELOPMENT

    • Ensure the store operates at an acceptable yearly net profit and meets sales, gross margin, expense and asset management goals

    • View, monitor and interpret financial reports and data to make business decisions

    • Ensure all sales are profitable and results in satisfied customers

    • Ensure positive growth of customer base and sales volume.

    • Maintain control over payroll expenses, overhead expenses, bad debt to sales, sales vs. budget, shrinkage, etc.

    COMMUNICATION

    • Maintain proper inventory levels depending on season, market, usage, etc.

    • Ensure employee progress, safety, procedures and general store efficiency

    • Act as a coordinator between sales and yard deliveries, focus efforts on efficient deliveries

    SAFETY EXPECTATIONS

    • Comply with all safety policies and procedures and ensure they are understood and followed by employees

    • Complete required monthly safety involvement

    • Use proper PPE when required

    • Maintain a safe work environment and be aware of surroundings at all times

      GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

    • Function independently and with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment and discretion

    • Comply with all Company policies and procedures and ensure they are understood and followed by employees

    • Develop new and existing skills through educational programs including, seminars, product knowledge training and clinics

    • Willing to become a member of a committee/team for current or new programs to ensure their success

    • Attendance at Company/store meetings is mandatory
