Position Overview:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and compliant environment within the food manufacturing facility. This role includes cleaning and light maintenance of common areas, offices, and non-production zones, ensuring a safe, sanitary, and welcoming space for employees. The Custodian will also support food safety and sanitation standards to help maintain the quality of operations.

Job Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Clean and sanitize common areas, including hallways, lobbies, restrooms, breakrooms, and office spaces following established protocols.
- Vacuum, mop, dust, and sanitize surfaces as required to uphold sanitation standards in a food manufacturing environment.
- Operate a power washer to clean surfaces.
- Utilize a floor scrubber to clean floors.
- Empty trash and recycling bins, replace liners, and ensure proper disposal according to company and regulatory standards.
- Willingness and ability to use a ladder or be elevated with powered equipment to facility ceiling height for cleaning purposes.
- Perform cleaning activities on property outdoors, including green areas, parking areas, and storage areas.
Compliance:
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines in common and office areas to support facility-wide compliance with food safety regulations.
- Adhere to OSHA, FDA, and company safety standards for handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Documentation:
- Maintain daily logs of cleaning activities and supplies used, noting any incidents or issues that may affect compliance or safety.
- Report maintenance needs or safety hazards to the Facilities Supervisor promptly.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of custodial equipment to support safe, efficient cleaning processes.
- Track and organize cleaning supplies, notifying the supervisor when inventory is low or needs replenishment.
Team Collaboration:
- Coordinate with production and facilities staff to minimize disruptions to operations while cleaning.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance sanitation and custodial practices in a food manufacturing setting.
Safety:
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents immediately to management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, and equipment, especially as applied in a food manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate custodial tools and machinery, such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and basic maintenance tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Food manufacturing facility setting, including common and office areas.
- Production facility setting.
- Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
- Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
