Responsibilities: Although your assignments will vary from day to day, these are some of the responsibilities you may take on throughout your internship: • Assist with managing geotechnical projects, design calculations, and recommendations • Supervise drilling operations and log soil borings • Classify soils and assign lab testing • Perform testing of soils, foundations, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete • Perform concrete testing • Perform deep foundation quality assurance tasks • Perform boring layout with conventional GPS equipment • Perform floor flatness testing • Prepare accurate typed daily field reports including appropriate photographs, sketches, etc. • Perform hand augers to obtain subsurface information and soil samples • Observe and document various field activities related to the construction process, including foundation installation techniques including ground improvement and deep foundations • Read maps and interpret engineering and construction plans • Interact and communicate daily with project team members including contractors, technicians, and DWK project managers Qualifications: • Willingness to work “in the dirt!” • Have a valid United States driver’s license, and reliable, insured, suitable transportation Must be able to provide suitable transportation for use on construction job sites - Mileage will be reimbursed • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word • Excellent writing and communication skills • Physically capable of meeting physical demands of walking/climbing on construction sites, moving, handling testing equipment (incl. lifting up to 50 lbs) • Preferred: coursework in civil engineering, environmental, agriculture, forestry, geology, or related field, ACI Level 1 Certification, APNGA Training Compensation: $18 - $25 hourly
