  • Responsibilities

    Major Duties

    • Serves as a Senior Data Scientist and leads teams for the most complex projects and may also serve as a team participant or an independent analyst on professional data science teams.
    • Applies the rigors of the data science discipline to data analysis in Cyber, Information Technology and economic analyses of complex and potentially controversial major information technology systems and networks.
    • Responsible for researching and modeling the most complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.
    • Integrates and prepares large, varied datasets, creates specialized database and computing environments, and communicates results.
    • Coordinates closely with data stewards, project/program managers, and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Data Scientist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GG-11 Qualifying Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by (1) assisting with analyzing data in cyber, information technology, or other areas to ensure plans meet programming requirements; (2) analyzing economic information to ensure plans meet budgetary requirements; (3) working on a team providing business metrics and support for complex projects to identify needed improvements; (4) using information systems hardware and software applications, and systems integration as applied to big data analytics and operational research. GG-12 Qualifying Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by (1) analyzing data in cyber, information technology and/or economic information to ensure plans meet programming or budgetary requirements; (2) providing business metrics and support for complex projects to identify needed improvements; (3) using information systems hardware and software applications, and systems integration as applied to big data analytics and operational research. GG-13 Qualifying Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe two years of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by (1) leading teams in analyzing data in cyber, information technology to ensure plans meet programming; (2) analyzing economic information to ensure plans meet budgetary requirements; (3) providing business metrics and support for complex projects to identify needed improvements; (4) using information systems hardware and software applications, and systems integration as applied to big data analytics and operational research; (5) ensuring information used is in compliance with regulations and security policies.
