Job Description
As an IBM DB2 Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the management, optimization, and overall administration of IBM DB2 databases. You will ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of DB2 databases that support business-critical applications. This position requires expertise in database configuration, tuning, security, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting within both distributed and mainframe environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM DB2 databases on Linux, UNIX, IBM Could platforms.
- Perform database upgrades and patches to ensure the environment is up to date and secure.
- Manage database objects (tables, indexes, views, etc.) and ensure proper data integrity and normalization.
- Handle database partitioning, clustering, and replication tasks.
Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying bottlenecks and tuning SQL queries for optimal performance.
- Utilize tools such as IBM Data Studio, or third-party software for performance monitoring.
- Conduct regular database health checks and make recommendations for improvements.
Backup & Recovery:
- Design and implement robust backup strategies, including automated backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Perform DB2 database restores and recoveries, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Manage database log files and ensure recovery capabilities.
Data Management & Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance tasks, including reorganization, compression, and data archiving.
- Manage large volumes of transactional data and optimize database performance for OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Expertise on of cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, Google cloud) is critical
Troubleshooting & Support:
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including connectivity, performance, and corruption problems.
- Provide support to development teams for database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Support high-availability environments and participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support.
