JOB SUMMARY:
The Standard Diesel Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for over the road semi-trucks, trailers, and other diesel vehicles.
DIESEL MECHANIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Running diagnostic tests on trucks, including refrigeration systems.
o Analyzing diagnostic test results.
o Replacing steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems.
o Checking vehicle lighting systems.
o Test driving vehicles to gauge performance.
o Performing preventative maintenance on semi-trucks.
o Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles.
o Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist.
o Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
o Most of our work is Cummins and Detroit Diesel and Freightliner
o Carrier and Thermo King refrigerated units
o We do some trailer body work, but extremely limited
o We work on trailers suspensions, dolly legs, etc.
o Welding – both aluminum and iron
DIESEL MECHANIC REQUIREMENTS:
o Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering (Optional).
o ASE Diesel Certification (Preferred).
o Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred)
o Aptitude for mathematics and science.
o Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
o Good IT and diagnostic skills. Preferred knowledge of Cummins and Freightliner diagnostic systems.
o Physically fit and able to lift 100-150 pounds or more.
o Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
o Attention to detail.
o Good interpersonal skills.
o Excellent verbal communication and written skills.
o Must own tools for the trade.
