    This dual-role position will split time between supporting individuals through the SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) program to apply for Social Security disability benefits and advocating for housing solutions for these individuals. The role will involve working with individuals with serious mental illness, medical impairments, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders, in both non-traditional and structured environments. SOAR training provided. This work involves visits to challenging environments such as shelters, streets, and temporary living arrangements.

    Outreach & Engagement:

    Identify potential clients through community outreach, referrals, and collaboration with local partners, including shelters and outreach programs.

    Conduct interviews with individuals to collect necessary information for the SSI/SSDI applications.

    SSI/SSDI Application Process:

    Assist individuals in gathering required medical records, assessments, and other documentation to support their disability claims.

    Write comprehensive SOAR Medical Summary Reports that accurately reflect the individual’s medical and mental health history.

    Coordinate with medical professionals (doctors, psychiatrists, specialists) to secure evidence for applications.

    Accompaniment and Support:

    Accompany individuals to appointments at the Social Security Administration (SSA) as needed to help navigate the application process.

    Provide ongoing support to clients throughout the disability application process, including follow-up on pending applications.

    Housing Advocacy & Assistance:

    Help individuals find and secure stable housing by connecting them with available programs and resources.

    Assist with navigating the housing application process, including documenting eligibility, arranging housing interviews, and following up on housing status.

    Crisis Intervention & Support:

    Provide case management services for individuals at risk of eviction or homelessness, ensuring they have access to immediate resources, including emergency shelter and financial assistance

    Desired Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

    Minimum of 2 years working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, or co-occurring substance use disorders.

    Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, or a related field, or certification as a Peer Specialist is a plus.

    Familiarity with Social Security Administration's Listings of Impairments and disability application processes.

    SOAR training or certification is preferred, though not mandatory.

    Experience in housing advocacy and familiarity with local housing resources, such as Rapid Rehousing, public housing, and supportive housing programs.

    Lived experience with homelessness, mental illness, or substance use disorder is highly valued.

    Proficiency with computer systems, including MS Office applications (Word, Excel), and familiarity with case management software and databases.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and case documentation.

    Washington State Driver’s License, acceptable driving history and proof of insurance.

    An equivalent combination of lived experience, education and work experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

    Job Requirements:

    Use of hands for typing and handling.

    Frequent communication by phone and email.

    Standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, stair climbing, walking, driving, talking, and hearing.

    Frequent travel by foot, car, or other transportation means to meet with clients in various settings, including shelters, encampments, and housing offices.

    Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

    Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25lbs.
