PROJECT ENGINEER
We are a design/build firm and the leading innovator in custom design-build architectural glazing systems, structural steel, and structural aluminum. Our company is growing exponentially and has an immediate opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our engineering team.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This will be full time employment. The qualified candidate will be designing shelters, structures, canopies, skylights, vertical glazing, and other architectural glazing and structural systems including AESS and AISC structure. Candidate will work with the client, vendors, structural engineers, and internal resources through all stages of the design process. Typical tasks will include preparation of submittal packages based on architectural and structural drawings, thinking outside of the box, open communication with the project team, and complex problem solving. Candidate will also work with purchasing, fabrication, and installers as a project progresses through manufacturing and installation. Work will be done remotely and in office as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interact directly with the Project Manager to define the scope of work, brainstorm and create an efficient design, and provide the necessary field support through installation. Designs will range from glazing only to full ground-up structure and will be AISC compliant.
- Works in coordination with other Project Engineers, Project Management, Sales & Estimating, Production personnel, and Installers throughout the life of a project.
- Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to create technical drawings based on scope of work, contract requirements, and budget.
- Effectively communicate design concept back to customer through detailed submittal package.
- Provide accurate and thorough shop drawings, production documents, and installation instructions.
- Generate a complete Bill of Materials.
- Create, maintain, and update standard drawings and details for new and existing products.
- Provide sales and estimating with support, including sales drawings, renderings, or other documentation as required.
- Adhere to policies, standards, and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Familiarize proprietary systems, materials, and fabrication practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. in Engineering or related field. Associates degree may be considered with extensive experience.
- Dependable, forthright, self-starter, knowledgeable with common architectural processes and fabrication methods. Must be familiar with structural steel and aluminum at a minimum.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and construction specifications.
- Willingness to grow with the company.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling software and AutoCAD 2D model space/paper space. Revit and SketchUp are desired but not required.
- Proficiency in Office365, Teams, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Excellent communication skills, internal and external, written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Ability to take initiative, performs work independently without being prompted, and asks for or offers help when needed.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and work within deadlines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years of related work experience in a design, architectural, or manufacturing environment. Design/Build experience is a big plus.
- Understanding of machining, welding, and fabrication methods.
- Knowledge of building codes and industry testing standards.
- Experience with design and fabrication of aluminum, steel, and polycarbonate components.
